Each hospital may have a specific price package for the test. It is a good idea to compare prices for you to save money. The newborn screening test price in the Philippines may range from Php 550 to Php 1500.

The difference in pricing relates to the number of diseases and medical conditions included. In the basic one, only 6 conditions are tested. The expanded version will test up to 28 medical conditions.

Accredited Newborn Screening Centers

The DOH has a list of accredited newborn screening centers where you can avail the service from. However, you may also have the test for your baby upon giving birth. Doctors like OB Gyne, pediatrician and surgeons for giving birth may also be able to help with the test.

Schedule of the Test

The screening test is usually done after 24 hours when the child is born. In some cases however, it may take about a few days before the test is conducted due to health reasons of the baby (for example being in an incubator or NICU).

Release of Results

You as the parent will be notified if the test turns out positive for any of the tested conditions. The results may be available after about 24 hours. However, some clinics may take a few days before the results become available.

Health Cards

If you are an HMO account holder, you may benefit from the coverage amount for maternity services. It is a good idea to inquire whether your child is covered through the newborn screening test.

Philhealth Coverage

If you are a Philhealth member, the Php 550 cost for the basic newborn screening will be covered. However, if you wish to have the expanded newborn screening test, the amount will be Php 1,500. In this case, you will have to pay the remaining amount.

In a recent circular, Philhealth has increased the amount covered for newborn screening from Php 1,750 to Php 2,950.
