What Hospital Room To Get For Confinement and Surgery

We are used to choosing a room in a hotel or beach resort. But ironically, selecting is also crucial when it comes to hospital confinement. Before you choose a room type in a hospital, consider first these factors and plan ahead with your budget.

There are two reasons why you may need to avail a hospital room. One is if you need to be monitored to prevent your disease from worsening and the other is when you need to recover after a surgery.

What Room Should I Get?

It is best to decide about the type of room beforehand so you can comfortably recover from surgery. Take note of these factors while you are on the planning stage.

Budget

Promos and Discounts of Hospitals

The most important concern for many Filipino patients is the room price. Stick only to the price range that you can pay for. This way, you can minimize the trouble of having more problems to pay the hospital bill.

Facilities

The facilities and amenities will influence the price of the room itself. The one with basic toilet and shower will be more expensive than ward type. TV, ref and a receiving area will all increase the room’s rate.

Companion

Consider the number of people in your room. The room size is important since this will make it easier for the patient and companion to move around. Moreover, those who need medical devices installed should get a relatively bigger sized room.

Of course, the bigger the size is, the higher the rate per night.

HMO Limit

If you have a health card, it may help you cover the expenses of a particular room type. Usually, it is indicated in the policy and the amenities included. However, you can always upgrade the room as long as you are willing to pay extra.

Common Rates

In the Philippines, hospital room rates vary depending on type. The per-day charges will also change based on the amenities included in each type of accommodation.

Room Types

  1. Ward

Usually considered as public room. More than one patient is present in a large area with individual beds. It may be too crowded in critical days. It is the cheapest type of hospital room starting from Php 350 per day.

2. Private

The private room is a secluded area only for the patient. It may be classified as regular or semi private (at most two patients in a room). The facilities are better with more moving spaces. One may have additional amenities like TV or refrigerator.

3. Family

The family room is the ideal type if you wish to pack in more than three people. It usually has a receiving room with sofa and tables. The comfort room is larger and sometimes with facilities for shower.

4. Suite

The suite is the most expensive room of all and with a premium price of course. You can expect the availability of top facilities in this accommodation. Executive rooms also have a separate receiving area for visitors.

Special Types

ICU and NICU rooms will only be availed if the doctor prescribed it. These facilities have advanced equipment and devices to monitor the patient’s health during critical times. The usual daily price of ICU in the Philippines starts from Php 1,500 in public hospitals up to Php 5,000 or more in private.

Choosing a hospital room before the medical procedure will help you get a more comfortable recovery time. If you have the budget, it would be ideal to avail the one with amenities that you need and prefer.
