Some hospitals and clinics are accredited by Philhealth for animal bites. You may check the list of hospitals where you can use Philhealth for the service.
HMO for Animal Bite
You may use your health card if animal bite is covered. Not all HMOs offer this service and it may depend on your policy. Check with your health card provider if anti rabies vaccines are covered.
The centers have available vaccines and injection shots especially made to prevent rabies symptoms and infections.
What Vaccines Are Available
Animal Bite Centers usually have doctors and professionals who will provide an assessment of the bite or scratch. In most cases, they will give anti-rabies shots, anti-tetanus shots and antibiotics.
24 Hours Open Centers
Most animal bite centers have fixed schedules. There may be no clinics that are open 24 hours especially those separate ones. However, hospitals have emergency rooms open ’round the clock. If you need to be assessed quickly by a doctor due to bloody wound, you may go to the nearest hospital for emergency care.
Price of Shot in Animal Bite Centers
Different hospitals and centers may charge difference prices. However, based on our research, the usual prices range from Php 600 to Php 2,000.
How Many Days Should I Get Anti Rabies Shots?
It is important that you consult your doctor right away. Based on studies, there is 10 days to 14 days period of observation for the animal. However, you may get a shot right away if you do not know the status of the animal.
How Many Do I Need?
Depending on your record and previous injections, three (3) shots are usually given with weeks and months apart. You need to complete all the anti rabies shots in order for it to be effective.
What if the dog is still healthy after 10 days or 14 days? Usually, animals with rabies will die after about 10 days. If the dog is still alive after 10 to 14 days, then it is possible that it does not have rabies. However, it is still recommended that you go to a doctor after you are bitten just to make sure.
Can I Get It for Prevention?
Yes. You can still avail of the anti rabies shots even if you were not bitten by a dog or cat. This is called pre-exposure vaccination. Usually, this is given in three shots from Day 0, Day 7 and Day 30. Ask the nearest Animal Bite Center for the latest price list.
Some clinics may offer protection to those who own a dog or cat. You may inquire from any of the ABCs about such package.
Clinic Schedules Day and Time
Animal Bite Centers are available from Monday to Friday. However, you can also find clinics in hospitals open on Saturday and Sunday schedules especially for emergency concerns.
In most cases, patients who proceed to the emergency room due to animal bites can receive anti tetanus and anti rabies shots when available. A doctor’s advice is necessary to know more how you can manage your wound and protect yourself from rabies infection.
Most clinics are open from 7 AM to 5 PM. Emergency cases may be consulted in clinics that are open 24 hours.
Contact Phone Number
For each location the Animal Bite Center contact number will depend on whether it is a free standing clinic or within the hospital. You may contact the facility first to know more about the available vaccines, doctor schedule and opening and closing time for each center.
