Some women may need to have their uterus removed through hysterectomy. The cost of this surgery starts from Php 85,000 to Php 180,000 and above depending on the patient profile. As a major surgery, Philhealth is expected to shoulder a part of the total expenses. How much in hospitals?
Hospitals with Hysterectomy | Rates (Php) |
---|---|
Makati Medical Center | 70,000 to 360,000 (laparoscopic type) |
Cardinal Santos Medical Center | 90,000 and up |
Makati Medical Center | 50,000 to 400,000 (CS type) |
Medical City | 75,000 and above |
St Luke’s Medical Center | 90,000 and up |
In the hospitals that I’ve contacted, the cheapest is from Php 48,000 and above in a public medical center. Overall, the cost will depend on how long you will recover, the rates of the surgeon, and any treatments involved if there are complications.
Why Do You Need It?
Doctors may recommend this procedure because of the existence of symptoms in the reproductive system. Some common reasons that this surgery is performed is due to:
- Cancer
- Heavy bleeding during menstruation
- Chronic pelvic pain
- Uterine prolapse
- Non-cancerous tumors
In some cases, it is done to prevent cancer from spreading if a tumor is already found. You probably heard that the surgery is performed to eliminate ovarian, uterine and cervical cancer.
Since you will require a recovery period, the total price will be based on the number of days of confinement, the professional fees of doctors and the medical facilities of the hospital.
Hysterectomy may involve partial segments of the reproductive organ. If the doctor has prescribed this, a different cost will be applied.
Do I Have Other Options?
Some cancers in the reproductive system may not respond to medication. In such cases, the only way to keep it from spreading is to totally remove the organs. You may initially talk to your doctor whether you can have other options aside from surgery.
For those with HMO or health cards, most companies may cover a part of the expenses since it is a major surgery. However, this is usually not included in their benefits offering so you have to check with your provider.
Patients who underwent hysterectomy may need to stay at the hospital for about a week. This is of course an average rate and may be different per individual. Your recovery time will be much shorter if there are no complications involved with the surgery.
