You may need to have a follow up with your surgeon and endocrinologist. This will also add up to your total cost of about Php 3,000.

Is it necessary to remove it?

Thyroid removal is performed for cancers and hyperthyroidism cases when they do not respond to medications. In most cases, it is done to treat hyperthyroidism, cancer, and big nodules.

Partial or total removal of the gland is available. Depending on your current health condition, the doctor may decide which one is best for you. There are hospitals that offer Scar-less surgery based on the patient’s preference.

Are there any other alternatives to thyroidectomy?

There is a no surgery option by using Radioactive Iodine Therapy. You will only drink a radioactive substance and the thyroid will be dissolved.

My mother had the option for RAI and it only took her about 1 hour to complete the procedure (preparation).

Health cards may not be able to cover the procedure as a surgery because we discovered in their fine print that pre-existing condition does not carry a benefit.
