Radioactive Iodine (RAI) treatment may be necessary to treat an overactive or cancerous thyroid. Patients usually pay up to Php 14,000 for a single session of RAI treatment. It is usually not covered by HMOs.

Some patients may have to pay up to Php 25,000 or more. This will depend on the amount of Iodine to be used and the professional fee of the doctor.

How many sessions do I need to complete?
In rare cases, a second therapy may be needed depending on the results after 6 months of the first dose. Your doctor will evaluate your health and results. However, there is a very high chance that the patient will only need one (1) treatment.
Where can I have the service for treatment?
You may see the list of government hospitals and choose the one for convenience. Inquire from PGH, NKTI or Philippine Heart Center. The more affordable option has a price of Php 7,800 excluding doctor’s fee.
Is the doctor’s fee included in the package price?
Remember that not all doctors can provide RAI treatment and it will require special training and knowledge. In most cases, their fees are included in the package.
How much is Philhealth covered amount?
Philhealth case rates of Php 3,640 and Php 840 for doctor’s fee are indicated for such procedure. Moreover, some expenses such as confinement, professional fee and surgery for the removal of the thyroid may be covered.
Most HMO companies do not cover the therapy since it is a highly specialized procedure. Take note that some hospitals will only provide the prices if they have a qualified doctor who will do the therapy.
