We’ve all learned in science class that the ear drums are sensitive and may be damaged. But a surgery to reconstruct the ear drums is available. The price of tympanosplasty may start from Php 175,000 to Php 189,000 in a private hospital.
Prices Among Hospitals
- East Avenue Medical Center – Php 6,500
- Jose Reyes Memorial Hospital – Php 11,360
- Makati Medical Center – Php 175,000 (mastoidectomy package)
We noticed that there is a big gap when it comes to pricing of the surgery between public and private centers. The most affordable that we found is from East Avenue Medical Center at Php 6,500.
For Philhealth, it will cover up to around Php 30,000 if mastoidectomy is included.
Initially, you may have a consultation with an ENT doctor. An initial set of hearing tests may be performed. If the doctor finds out that the eardrum is truly damaged, then a surgery to repair it may be recommended.
Health Insurance Coverage
Some health cards from HMO companies cover specific surgeries like this. For example, if the injury is due to an accident, health insurance or HMO can cover a part of the cost under emergency or accident clauses.
Some children may have perforated ear drums which will require surgery. Parents should be aware that the longer one waits, the greater possible damage the ears can have. For adults, the surgery may also be offered if there are frequent infections in the middle ears.
