Cancer Screening Price in Philippines List: What Tests to Avail

One surprise that we don’t want is being diagnosed with cancer. The price of cancer screening tests may range from Php 2,000 to Php 12,000 or more and will depend on the diagnostic test type. You may be able to save more if there is a package rate that includes other medical services.

Types of Screening

1. Lung Cancer

  • X-Ray – Php 350 to Php 600
  • CT Scan – Php 4,500 to Php 6,000
  • MRI – Php 5,000 to Php 7,000

We have found through research that an x-ray can actually detect early signs of lung cancer. According to the American Cancer Society, x-ray is the basic test to detect lung cancer for high risk patients. Other tests may include MRI and CT Scan.

2. Prostate Cancer

  • DRE – Php 1,000 (consultation)
  • PSA Test – Php 3,000 to Php 3,600
  • Prostate ultrasound – Php 2,300 to Php 3,000

For men, prostate cancer screening is usually performed starting from 40 years old and up. PSA test and Digital Rectal Exam are recommended by doctors. Here’s the price list of common prostate cancer tests.

3. Testicular Cancer

Testicular cancer is also screened specifically among men depending on the prescription of the doctor. An ultrasound may be used in this case.n

Women also have screening tests specific only to them. The price rates of these tests will depend on the diagnostic exams, doctor’s fees or laboratory tests.

4. Breast Cancer

  • Mammogram – Php 1,200 to Php 2,000
  • Breast ultrasound – Php 900 to Php 1,500

Mammogram is mainly used to detect potential cancers in the breast. Patients with more advanced symptoms may also undergo scans based on the doctor’s recommendation.

5 Cervical Cancer

  • Pap Smear – Php 1,200 to Php 2,000
  • Colposcopy – Php 3,000 to Php 4,000
  • HPV Test – Php 900 to Php 1,200

Cervical cancer screening among women may also be done through PAP smear. OB Gyne doctors may also request for other tests such as ultrasound and blood tests.

6. Colorectal Cancer

The test is usually administered for people aged 50 and above. It provides an opportunity to capture any potential cancers in the colon and rectum areas. Some of the possible tests may include but not limited to:

  • Fecal occult blood test (FOBT)
  • Colonoscopy
  • EZ Detect
  • Sigmoidoscopy

Some children and babies may be at risk of contracting cancers. A pediatrician may request for cancer screening tests based on the current health of the patient especially with concerns related to leukemia.

Note that cancer screening exams differ based on the disease type. Philhealth may cover some tests in order to help members save on expenses. However, there should be a doctor’s prescription to maximize its benefits.

If you have an HMO card, you may also use it to avail of special packages for cancer tests that are indicated within your plan.

Do I Need a Cancer Test?

It is really up to you. We all know that medical services are expensive, not to mention troublesome. But when it comes to health, no one should take chances. If you have the money and time, then a test is better to have.

Can I Walk In?

In most cases, you may need to have a referral from a doctor. This way, you can have a checklist of medical tests appropriate to your needs. On the other hand, you may also do a walk-in procedure when you avail a package from the hospital.
