Price of HIV Test
The average price of HIV or AIDS Test is around Php 700. However, each hospital and clinic may provide an updated price list of HIV test. You may also find a government clinic with free HIV test.
Requirements for HIV Test
There are usually no requirements when you go to the clinic or hospital. However, some laboratory in hospitals may request first for the prescription from a doctor. In most clinics, and free HIV centers, you can simply walk in and request for the test.
How To Read HIV Test Results
In most cases, the results of the test will immediately give the note whether you are positive or negative. In some centers, the word Non-Reactive indicates that you are HIV negative.
On the other hand, if there is a positive note, you may still need to do another test like Western Blot test to confirm. Ask the hospital or clinic staff what your test results mean.
Health Card for HIV test
Most HMO health cards do not cover the price of HIV or AIDS test. This is a special diagnostic procedure and one may not be able to use any health cards. You may find clinics that offer free testing especially those supported by LGUs.
Other non government organizations also offer free testing for individuals. You may proceed to the clinic as a walk in client. Most health insurance may also not cover the disease in their benefits.
Clinic Hours for HIV Test
Most of the hospitals and clinics can accommodate HIV testing Mondays to Saturdays. Sometimes, there is also a Sunday schedule but the results may be available the next business day.
In some cases, those in-patients or who are for monitoring may have the test as recommended by the doctor.
Fast HIV Result
Screening test for HIV may be available in about 4 hours as the fastest. However, you may need to request for the time frame on when you can get the actual results. In most cases, results will be available after 24 hours for out patient testing.
How Do You Get HIV
HIV is primarily transmitted from one person to another through sex. This includes vaginal or anal sex for both males and females. Fluids that may contain HIV include:
- Blood
- Breast Milk
- Semen
- Pre-seminal fluid (pre-cum)
- Rectal Fluids
- Vaginal Fluids
These fluids may transmit the virus if they come into contact with the bloodstream of a person.
HIV can also be transmitted by sharing syringe needles (injection)
