We always see dog bites as a reason to get anti rabies vaccine. But what if I was scratched? Let’s find out whether we need it and the price.
Scenario
I was with a friend’s house last year. I didn’t know they had a pet dog that was so friendly. The dog jumped over me and scratched my legs continuously. I was so frightened and all I can think of was rabies.
A day later I had to go to a clinic in QC to consult a doctor. The scenario was given Category 2 so I needed a shot. There were red marks in my legs after 24 hours.
Rates
The price of anti rabies shot is Php 800. It was only for the first injection. I was given a card to tabulate the number of shots.
He recommended that I receive at least three of them. I had to come back again after a week and then another after 3 weeks. In total, the cost of the vaccine was Php 2,700 because there was a consultation fee.
I paid in cash for every schedule that I needed the shot. The doctor said I can also avail protection series if I want to. They usually cost around Php 3,000 in total.
He said that the vaccine has a protection up to 2 years depending on whether I will get a bite or scratch again.
